Koekelberg Basilica was built between 1905 and 1970 as part of King Leopold II’s plan to give Brussels a cityscape worthy of the capital of a great empire. The Neo-Baroque Palais de Justice and the Neo-Classical Parc du Cinquantenaire were also part of this plan. The current Art Deco basilica was built after WW1 on the foundations for the Neo-Gothic structure initially planned.
